What is a Barbell Club?

Chicago Strength Barbell Club was designed around the barbell and all of it's various movements. Most of our members are focused on weightlifting and/or powerlifting. Weightlifting of course focuses on snatch and clean & jerk, while powerlifting has the back squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Don't be fooled though, we have members focused on getting bigger/stronger/leaner by using a wide spectrum of traditional, and innovative, resistance training methods.

Can I lift outside of those practice times?

Of course! But, you will need to lift when we have a CrossFit class. Also, you must be cleared to lift alone or outside of class times by the barbell club coach.

I've never lifted before, but I want to learn!

I want to lift, but I don't want to compete.

Competing is NOT a requirement. We would love for everyone to try a competition, but we fully understand that a lot of us just want to lift for health, wellness, and also as a hobby!
